I believe in public writing and private support
Why I offer subscriptions without restricting access
I received my first annual subscription this week. (Insert lots of hooray! here.)
It reminded me that people are showing up for what I’m building here. And that maybe, just maybe, it’s useful. At least for a few of us! That’s what inspired me to write this: a reflection on what I’m doing with It’s All Happening, why it matters to me, and how I hope it can matter to you.
When I launched this publication, I knew two things for sure:
I was going to tell the truth about my health and wellness expedition.
I wasn’t going to put a paywall between that truth and the people who might find it helpful.
Everything I publish on this Substack is public. That’s intentional.
Because maybe you’re where I was a couple years ago: trying to find a way forward that wasn’t wrapped in shame, confusion, or exhaustion. Or maybe you’re not even sure what you’re looking for yet. Either way, you’re welcome here.
Why I turned on paid subscriptions
Paid subscriptions allow people who find value in my writing to support it directly. They help cover the time, tools, and energy it takes to keep sharing consistently. My goal is to publish multiple times each week. And to do it without outside influence or advertising. I also don’t participate in affiliate programs. There are no trackers on links to books, etcetera.
If you’re able to become a paid subscriber, you’re not paying for extra posts. You’re paying so that nothing has to be extra. You’re helping keep the lights on and the door wide open.
Why I keep it public
I write about metabolic health, self-advocacy, Type-2 Diabetes remission, weight loss, insulin resistance, GLP-1s, grief, and recovery. All from a lived-experience lens. These are not topics that should only be available to people who can afford a subscription.
I’ve done this work while also navigating a curiously frustrating time in my career and finances. That tension has made me even more committed to keeping this accessible.
This publication isn’t just “content”. It’s advocacy. And if I’ve learned anything, it’s that healing gets stronger when we’re honest and generous with each other.
I didn’t figure this all out on my own. But it sure took a lot of time. So many rabbit holes! I read a lot of books, listened to dozens of podcasts, and spent considerable time learning and reflecting within an online community of people working toward better metabolic health. And I’ll never stop learning.
What I share here is shaped by that experience, including what I’ve learned through The Fasting Method, where I’ve been an active participant in their online community since Spring 2024. My voice is my own, but the support and insights I’ve gained along the way are part of what fuels this work.
So what do paid subscribers get?
You get my sincere gratitude. And you help keep this work accessible to everyone.
I don’t offer bonus content, behind-the-scenes access, or members-only perks. Because I don’t want to put any of it behind a paywall. But paid subscribers may occasionally get early access to new projects I’m working on, or updates before they’re announced more broadly. (I’m going to be launching an endeavor this Summer that I am both nervous and excited to talk about.)
Mostly, though, your support helps me keep going. And I’m grateful.
If you’re here reading, reflecting, or sharing this work: thank you. That means more than you know.
And if you’re supporting it financially: you’re helping me do this in a way that feels aligned, sustainable, and deeply rooted in the kind of future I want to help build. Thank you for helping me pay it forward.
A monthly subscription is $6. An annual subscription is $60. Founding Allies can contribute $125 or more.
One of the best ways to show support: tell a friend
Paid subscriptions help keep the lights on, but word of mouth keeps the momentum going. If something here resonates with you, the simplest way to support this work is to share it. Send a post to a friend, forward the email, post the link on social media, or tell someone who might need it, “Hey, I found this to be useful.”
About Founding Allies
Founding Allies are people who choose to support this work beyond the standard subscription.
This tier doesn’t unlock secret content. It helps keep all posts public, supports future projects, and champions the idea that healing, learning, and community should be accessible. Allies give this work an impactful boost.
A note about Chat access
The Chat area is where I will occasionally post shorter notes or invite discussion. It’s available to all subscribers, free and paid. If you haven’t subscribed yet (even for free), you won’t be able to access Chat. But reading and commenting on posts remains open to everyone.
Building something together
Writing about this so publicly is a risk. But it also feels like a chance worth taking. Not just to share what I’ve learned, but to explore whether I can use my skills in writing, research, and bringing great ideas to life. These are things I’ve spent years offering to other people’s busineses. This time, I’m trying to build something I conceived. Rooted in truth, care, and community.
If you’ve found something here that matters to you and want to help pay it forward with me as a paid subscriber or with referrals: thank you. You’re part of what makes this sustainable.
